Week fifteen
Ugh, linesmaker is down this morning so the auto-picker didn’t work, so I’m using sportsbetting.com manually instead. Only one player didn’t get in a valid pick this week, so he got the Titans (top of that odds sheet).
Open thread below.

Titans are going to lose. And we’ll see if Oakland can shake things up again. I’m hoping so and so does everyone else that didn’t pick them.

Larry Fitzgerald banged up… Kurt Warner playing terrible… just lost to SF… Lions playing better and better each week. All good reasons that about 11 people should be sweatin their Arizona pick this week. I picked Denver along with the majority today but it might almost be worth them losing so I can laugh in the faces and stick it to all the jackass Broncos fans out here in Denver.

I didn’t get a chance to respond to last week’s comments about other possible changes.
I’m not in favor of upping the number of entries per player. Really, I think 5 is more than enough.
I am only lukewarm to upping the entry fee. The reason this pool even got started was because in the pool that a bunch of us used to play in, they upped the entry fee to something a little outrageous, so I started one on my own.
With parity almost gone in the league, I’m instead trying to think up some ways to make the pool more challenging, instead of everyone just picking against the bad teams. Here are a couple:
1. Double up picks in certain weeks later in the season, like maybe the weeks played in December. So you must pick two teams to win to move on, instead of just one.
2. Extend into the playoffs, probably just wild card and divisional games. The same rules would apply, so players will need to save some “good” teams in order to survive the playoff weeks. If you used all of your good teams already, you’re SOL, so it becomes part of your season-long strategy. I’m not sure if it’s realistic to expect that players to have teams available to pick by the championship games.
With just option 1, you would have had to make 21 total picks (17 regular picks plus 4 doubled-up picks in December) to make it through the season.
With just option 2, you would have had to make 19 total picks (17 regular and 2 playoff). But with only 8 teams playing per playoff week, it limits who you can pick from.

I wouldn’t mind having to pick 2 games in December weeks. I don’t like the playoff option unless the teams that made the playoffs were available again. It would be almost impossible to pick during the regular season having to leave teams for possible playoff picks. Especially not even knowing who might make the playoffs until week 16 or 17. That option doesn’t seem very realistic unless you add the playoff teams back in to be picked again. Just my thoughts… Thanks!!!

What is the total amount of the pot?

Good luck to those that are left. The Raiders did me in like they have so many others.

i don’t like the playoffs idea either. like Dennis said, who are we to know who will make the playoffs and who won’t. this has been a very predictable or unpredictable season depending on how you look at it. if everyone was trying to save ‘playoff teams’ for the playoffs, we probably wouldn’t even make it through the season with people reserving their picks.

the pot is at $5240. and with 26 people/entries left, that’s $201.54 per share.

by the way, the Raiders are now my favorite team.

and the Vikings should no longer play in prime time. they had better play a whole lot better next monday night. those tickets for MNF cost me an arm and a leg.

I prefer the 2 picks in December a lot more than the playoff idea. The Raiders screwed me early in the season vs the Eagles, but boy I did i like seeing them win today.

Why tinker with a good pool. Make it a true SURVIVOR POOL….Dog eat dog….You pay your money you takes your chances…Get rid of the buy backs and auto picks….Stop treating us like a bunch of babies….If you didn’t survive this year….try next year…Don’t try and change things to make up for your short comings….

Broncos are my team so that really sucked for me, except I picked so no one to blame. So did 1/2 the pool so I am at least happy that it sweetened the pot for those who remain, Merry Christmas and good luck everyone!

Bill, I am going to give you my opinion. This is the pool that you created and if I were you I would just leave the pool as is. Yes in my opinion having buybacks in the first 5 weeks seems to be excessive if anything maybe reduce it to week 2 or 3 and that way the pool prize money will increase from original. For all of those people worried about too many picks left due to buybacks keep in mind that Tenn., Hous. and Ariz all came very close to losing and if that would have happened there would have been only 2 picks left with 2 weeks remaining. I have been in other survivor pools over the last 10 plus years and every year there are major upsets in December.

Hey guys, I’m on the outside looking in here…. but has anyone noticed that Dave Br. is only one left with multiple entries with THREE ????
Impressive I must say….
Good luck all.

I would agree with Jason G and say just leave it as is. Okay, 1 more idea… Each winning team at the end of the season has 7 unused teams. How about in the final week if there are more than say 5 players, then have each player make their final survivor team pick and then put their remaining teams in order of who they think will win. That would leave 7 unused teams that each player would need to choose from in order of who they think would win. Whomever has the most wins before hitting a losing team is the winner.
